Frequently asked questions
Are pigeon peas, toor and arhar the same crop?
These names refer to Cajanus cajan. Toor dal or arhar dal normally identifies the dehulled split product. State whole grain or split dal explicitly, because the forms have different processing and acceptance requirements.
Which varieties and grades can I request?
Specify the cultivar if identity is essential, or describe colour, size, form and performance. Whole/split and polished/unpolished describe processing rather than cultivar. Named variety, grade and conformance are confirmed for the proposed lot, not guaranteed across the catalogue.
How is pigeon pea quality assessed?
Agree the applicable specification, sampling method and limits for moisture, foreign matter, damaged or insect-affected seeds, splits and colour. Add relevant food-safety testing, traceability and cooking or milling trials. A sample approval does not replace shipment inspection.
Can food-grade pigeon peas be used as planting seed?
Food grain is not automatically qualified planting seed. Germination, varietal identity, seed health and applicable seed certification requirements need separate verification. Crop uses such as fodder and green manure do not make this food-grain offer a seed or feed guarantee.
