Rosemary

Rosemary in fresh sprigs, dried leaves or cut form, specified for culinary aroma, cleanliness and packing.

Rosemary is an aromatic culinary herb with narrow, needle-like leaves carried on woody stems. Fresh sprigs suit food-service and retail herb programmes, while dried leaves and cut material serve seasoning and food-manufacturing requirements. These forms have different acceptance and handling needs. A buyer should identify the intended recipe or presentation, acceptable stem content and required packing before requesting a quotation. Duara Group reviews the proposed product against those requirements; growing-country records do not establish a confirmed source, grade or stock position.

Rosemary buying guide

Fresh sprigs and dried leaf are different purchases

Fresh rosemary may be selected for sprig presentation, garnish or kitchen preparation. Dried rosemary can be ordered as whole leaves, a cut fraction or ground material. Agree the form explicitly because a whole-leaf seasoning and a fresh bunch are not interchangeable quotation units. Woody stems can affect preparation and usable yield, so define the permitted presentation rather than relying on a premium label. Essential oil and extracts are separate processed ingredients: a growing record for rosemary does not establish local manufacture or availability of those derivatives.

Leaf condition, aroma and physical assessment

For fresh herbs, review leaf colour, turgidity, bruising, discolouration and the condition of the stems. For dried material, agree colour, aroma, particle size and tolerances for stems, foreign material and damaged leaf. Aroma should be assessed against a representative reference sample in the buyer's intended application. A strong smell alone cannot establish botanical identity, purity or food safety. Set measurable acceptance criteria for the proposed form and ask how the commercial lot will be sampled, rather than approving an unrelated photograph.

Specifications for seasoning and manufacturing

A seasoning blender should identify the required cut, recipe application and processing compatibility. Ground rosemary needs a defined particle-size basis and an appropriate identity and purity check; it should not be treated as a generic green powder. Agree whether moisture, microbiological, residue or other analyses are required, and which methods and limits apply to the destination and customer. Any treatment claim needs a declaration for the actual lot. Published commodity references are useful context but are not a certificate or a confirmed Duara product specification.

Retail bunches, kitchen packs and dry bulk packing

Fresh bunches and retail packs need an agreed net content, stem presentation, ventilation and label. Bulk kitchen buyers may prefer a different pack from a retail herb programme. Dried leaves need packaging that protects them from moisture pickup, contamination and aroma loss during the proposed handling chain. Confirm liner material, outer-pack strength, coding and pallet arrangement. Do not compare price per case until the usable form and declared net content are clear. Samples should be packed similarly enough to support a useful assessment.

Storage and distribution planning

Fresh rosemary and dried rosemary require separate storage plans. Confirm the proposed fresh-herb temperature management and receiving condition with the packer, taking account of the route and mixed-load compatibility. Protect dried material from damp conditions, odour contamination and pack damage. A general herb shelf-life claim is not a guarantee for a particular consignment: ask for the actual product's storage instruction, date coding and supporting basis. Agree how quality complaints, damaged packs and any handling excursions will be recorded and reviewed on arrival.

A clear rosemary purchasing brief

Send the fresh or dried form, required leaf and stem presentation, cut size where relevant, intended use, quality limits, pack, quantity and destination. Add the receiving schedule, sample-approval process and any specific testing, traceability or customer-document requirements. If an organic or other certification is requested, it must be checked for the proposed operator and product scope. Duara assesses an actual source and practical route separately. The country directory describes documented cultivation, not a promise that every listed origin supplies every rosemary form.

Documented Production by Country

These are documented examples of rosemary cultivation or processing. Named operators are evidence of activity, not Duara partners. Undated statements are labelled as such; no national quantities, certifications or availability are inferred. Global country coverage remains partial.

These are dated production or manufacturing records, not a list of Duara suppliers or confirmed delivery destinations. The directory covers the evidence verified so far; it does not claim an exhaustive list of all producing countries.

Rosemary in Ethiopia

Green Mark names rosemary among herbs grown on its Ethiopian farms. This is direct cultivation evidence; no national quantity or processed-ingredient output is inferred.

Rosemary in Kenya

Aromatic Fresh identifies rosemary among herbs cultivated on its Kitengela farm. This is grower-level evidence, not a national dried-leaf or oil-production figure.

Frequently asked questions

Can dried rosemary replace fresh sprigs in a quotation?

Only with buyer approval. The physical presentation, recipe use, usable yield, packing and handling differ, so specify the form required.

Does rosemary cultivation prove essential-oil production?

No. Leaf production, oil extraction and other processing are separate activities and require their own evidence.

How should stem content be specified?

Agree whether the product is sprigs, stripped leaves or a cut blend and define the acceptable stem fraction and sampling basis for that form.

What should a manufacturing buyer request?

State the cut or particle size, identity, quality and test requirements, treatment declaration, packing and intended recipe application, then approve a representative lot specification.
