Cassava

Cassava roots and processing requirements specified by use, condition, form, quality and packing.

Cassava, also called manioc or yuca, is a starchy root used in several food and industrial value chains. Fresh roots, dried chips, flour and separated starch are different commercial products with different inspection and handling requirements. A buyer should identify the intended use before requesting a price or comparing origins. Duara Group assesses the form, quality, processing evidence, packing, volume and destination. Fresh-root production statistics do not establish local flour or starch manufacture, a food-safety specification or availability of an exportable lot.

Cassava buying guide

Separate the traded forms

Fresh cassava should be specified as roots with a defined condition, size range and handling plan. Dried chips need a moisture and contamination specification. Flour and separated starch are not interchangeable: describe the process and the intended application instead of accepting the word powder. Food, feed and industrial requirements must be kept distinct. If alternative forms are acceptable, agree how their performance and usable yield will be evaluated before a proposal is treated as equivalent.

Quality, identity and processing evidence

Cassava is not presented here as a ready-to-eat raw root. Buyers need a suitable product and validated preparation or processing arrangements for the intended use. Request the applicable safety assessment, process description and analytical evidence rather than relying on a variety nickname. For fresh roots, inspect damage, deterioration and internal condition. For dry forms, define moisture, foreign material, particle or chip size and any relevant compositional tests. Acceptance criteria must refer to the actual product and agreed test methods.

Food manufacturing and industrial applications

A flour buyer should explain the recipe, milling characteristics and consistency needed between batches. A starch buyer should identify the functional performance required in its process and whether native or modified material is intended. Chip and root processors need an agreed basis for usable yield, preparation and rejection. An industrial specification does not make material suitable for food use. Trial samples should be evaluated in the buyer's real process, with the relevant technical and food-safety responsibilities clearly assigned.

Packing and handling fresh roots

Fresh-root logistics need close attention because deterioration can develop after harvest and damage. Confirm harvest or packing information, handling restrictions and the proposed journey before selecting a pack. Crates, bags or bulk arrangements should be assessed against root protection, cleanliness, loading and the receiving operation. A longer route may require a specifically supported preservation process; it cannot be justified by packaging appearance alone. Any treatment or coating should be disclosed and assessed for the destination and intended use.

Dry-product storage and lot control

Dried chips, flour and starch require packaging and storage controls suited to their moisture and contamination risks. Agree liner type, pack closure, lot identification and protection from moisture pickup, pests and cross-contamination. State net contents and the quantity basis explicitly. Shelf-life claims need a documented product specification, process and pack, not a general cassava-crop description. Receiving checks should connect samples to a traceable lot and record condition, pack integrity and any required laboratory results.

Preparing a cassava buying schedule

Send the required form, end use, quality limits, quantity, packing and destination. Include any processing, safety or functionality requirements and identify who will approve samples. A recurring programme should set rules for variation in moisture, size or process, with a documented acceptance method. Duara reviews the proposed source and route against that schedule. A country growing cassava is not automatically a verified source of food-grade flour or starch, and no factory capacity, inventory, certificate or delivery time is guaranteed here.

Documented Production by Country

The records below describe fresh cassava root crop production; not dried chips, flour or starch manufacture. Quantities are national production statistics for the stated year, not available export quantities or Duara supply capacity. Estimates are labelled; uncorroborated imputed observations are retained internally rather than published as verified production.

These are dated production or manufacturing records, not a list of Duara suppliers or confirmed delivery destinations. The directory covers the evidence verified so far; it does not claim an exhaustive list of all producing countries.

Frequently asked questions

Are cassava flour and cassava starch the same material?

No. They are different processed products. Identify the material and intended use, then agree composition, physical and functional requirements with the actual supplier.

Can fresh cassava be treated as ready to eat?

No. The buyer must establish suitable processing or preparation and the evidence appropriate to the intended food use. A fresh-root quotation is not a ready-to-eat safety claim.

Do the country figures prove starch manufacture?

No. The directory reports fresh cassava crop production. Processing facilities, grades and available lots require separate evidence.

What should a dry-form inquiry include?

Specify chips, flour or starch; intended use; moisture and quality targets; test methods; pack; quantity; destination; and any required process or safety documentation.
