Palm Oil procurement guide

Palm-oil procurement should distinguish crude or refined palm oil from palm olein, stearin and other fractions. Each has different melting behavior and food or industrial application.

Commercial forms and uses

Palm olein is commonly selected for liquid frying uses; stearin can support bakery fats, shortenings and soap; crude or refined oil may feed further processing subject to the buyer's specification.

Oil quality and processing status

State product or fraction, refining status, free fatty acids, moisture and impurities, colour, melting or cloud-point requirements where relevant and contaminant or food-safety limits.

Packing, storage and unloading

Specify drums, IBCs, flexitank or bulk delivery and the receiving site's pumping, heating and storage capability. Agree cleanliness, sealing, sampling and previous-cargo controls.
