Botanical name: Capsicum frutescens. African Bird’s Eye chilli has small fruits compared with many conventional chillies, a characteristic chilli aroma and strong pungency. Green fruit develops to red at maturity; mature red pods are commonly requested for drying and ingredient processing.
Common commercial names include Bird’s Eye Chilli, Bird Eye Chilli and Bird’s Eye Chili, as well as African Bird’s Eye Chili, peri-peri chilli, piri-piri chilli and pili-pili. Naming can vary across markets, so botanical identity and cultivar should be confirmed for the quoted lot.
Fresh pods retain their fresh-pepper texture; drying produces a concentrated spice ingredient used whole or processed into flakes and powder. Dried lots should be assessed for colour retention, pod integrity, cleanliness and the absence of unacceptable mould, infestation or off-odours under the agreed specification.
Heat level, fruit size, colour and other characteristics vary by cultivar, origin, season and growing conditions. Buyers needing a Scoville heat value should request laboratory-backed lot data. Duara does not publish a guaranteed SHU range. Bulk ingredient suitability depends on the application and agreed food-safety requirements.

Fresh and dried Bird’s Eye chilli serve different ingredient and processing requirements. Available form is confirmed against the buyer’s enquiry; none of these forms is represented as permanent stock.
Red or green fresh chillies, subject to origin, season, grade, packaging and destination requirements. Specify maturity, condition on arrival and handling requirements.
Whole dried red pods for spice processing, food manufacturing, wholesale and export. Specify colour, moisture, stem content, cleanliness and permitted defects.
Investigated only where the selected supplier can meet the buyer’s stem-removal requirement. Agree residual stem tolerance and handling damage before confirmation.
For seasoning, food processing and spice blending, subject to processing availability. Specify particle size, seed content, pungency and food-safety requirements.
Ground chilli, where available, according to required mesh, pungency, colour and food-safety specification. Confirm whether pure ground chilli or a separate blend is required.
These are technical and commercial enquiry parameters, not fixed Duara lot values. Cultivar, origin, season, processing and buyer requirements affect the specification. Agree the written acceptance limits and test methods before ordering.

Duara Group is based in Kenya. Potential sourcing origin is determined by current crop availability, specification, volume, supplier qualification, export eligibility and destination requirements. The African sourcing section below explains the regional options; no origin is represented as permanent stock.
Available documents are confirmed against the selected source and destination before order confirmation. Requirements depend on origin, supplier, product form and destination; certificates and laboratory reports are not automatically available for every lot.
Commercial grades are agreed around the intended use rather than a single universal Duara grade. Whole-pod buyers may prioritise colour, pod uniformity, fruit size and permitted broken or damaged pods; processors may place more weight on pungency, moisture, stem percentage and cleanliness. A stemless requirement must include an acceptable residual stem tolerance.
Specify foreign-matter and purity limits, pesticide-residue requirements, aflatoxin and ochratoxin acceptance limits, microbiological quality and a Salmonella test criterion. Agree sampling and analytical methods so supplier reports can be compared with the buyer’s written specification.
Crop year, drying and processing method, seed content in processed forms and any requested sterilisation should be stated before quotation. Grade names alone do not establish compliance: final acceptance is based on the identified lot, agreed inspection and laboratory evidence.
Duara Group is based in Kenya and can investigate suitable African growing regions against a buyer’s specification. Current crop availability, supplier qualification, volume, export eligibility and destination-market requirements determine which source is commercially workable.
East Africa — Kenya is a prominent enquiry origin alongside Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, where chilli production and export activity are established. Ethiopia may also be considered where a suitable Bird’s Eye cultivar, qualified source and export route can be verified. Orders from each origin are assessed on their actual lot requirements.
Southern Africa — Malawi has historically been an important African Bird’s Eye chilli producer. Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa are additional production markets that may be investigated for suitable lots. Malawi-origin requests remain subject to current crop and supplier confirmation.
Other African production markets — Ghana may be considered where the required cultivar, quantity and documentation can be confirmed. These are potential production and sourcing markets, not a statement that Duara holds stock or qualified suppliers in every country.
Potential sourcing origin is determined by current crop availability, specification, volume, export eligibility and destination requirements. Tell us whether a named origin is essential or whether equivalent qualified African origins may be quoted.
China’s GACC Announcement No. 50 of 2026 took effect on May 1, 2026, allowing qualifying dried chillies from African countries maintaining diplomatic relations with China under its phytosanitary requirements. Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania already had specific dried-chilli arrangements; their applicable protocols remain relevant.
China-bound dried chilli requires approved/registered production bases and processing/packing facilities, traceability, phytosanitary inspection and certification, suitable packaging and labelling, and compliance with Chinese food-safety and quarantine requirements. The broad framework does not make every farm or processor eligible.
For buyers seeking an African Bird’s Eye chilli supplier to China, Duara Group can coordinate sourcing from eligible African origins where the selected farm, processor, documentation and shipment meet the applicable Chinese import requirements. Export eligibility is confirmed before quotation and shipment. Specify dried whole or processed form and the intended importer and port; fresh chilli access is checked separately.
Buyers seeking a Bird’s Eye chilli supplier for the USA can enquire about fresh or dried forms against their ingredient specification, packaging and destination requirements. Dried chilli wholesale orders for the United States need lot-specific quality and food-safety review before confirmation.
U.S.-bound supply is prepared according to applicable food-import requirements. FDA requirements and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program may impose obligations on the U.S. importer, depending on the transaction. Duara coordinates the requested source information and documents where available; this page makes no claim of FDA approval or registration.
European dried-chilli buyers commonly specify pesticide-residue limits, aflatoxin limits, ochratoxin requirements, microbiological quality, cleanliness, moisture, traceability, packaging and laboratory testing. Agree the destination country, intended use, acceptance limits and sampling basis before comparing offers.
For Bird’s Eye chilli wholesale enquiries to Europe, Duara investigates African dried chilli lots against those requirements. Actual compliance obligations depend on the destination country, buyer and current regulations. Laboratory and documentation availability must be confirmed for the selected lot; no blanket certification is implied.
Supply enquiries are welcome from the United Kingdom, Canada, North America, South America and the Caribbean, as well as the Middle East and Asia. Across the Americas and other markets, international food processors and spice importers should specify the product form, ingredient standard and destination-specific documents.
An African chilli exporter’s feasible offer depends on the selected origin and product’s import eligibility. Destination-market requirements are assessed before order confirmation rather than assumed from another market’s acceptance.
Shipment is quoted according to product form, quantity, origin, destination country and port, named Incoterm and required delivery schedule. FOB and CIF are the terms supported by the site’s existing RFQ system; their suitability and named port are confirmed for the proposed shipment, not promised for every origin.
Sea freight may be commercially suitable for larger dried-chilli shipments. Air freight may suit smaller or time-sensitive fresh orders where the destination and handling route permit. Moisture protection for dried product and appropriate fresh-produce handling are agreed with packaging and shipment arrangements. Freight prices and transit times are confirmed at quotation.
State fresh or dried and whole, stemless, flakes or powder; required quantity; target pungency / SHU if specified; colour; moisture; stem percentage; purity and foreign-matter tolerance; and permitted damaged pods. Add packaging, preferred origin if any, harvest / crop year, laboratory and testing requirements and certificates.
Include destination country and port, named Incoterm, required shipment date and recurring or one-off order. Open the existing Pricing Calculator / Build an RFQ above: use Other / required specification for chilli quality details and the existing quantity, packaging, destination and shipment controls. The Request a Quote button also selects this product in the shared quotation form. Availability, MOQ, price and timing are confirmed on inquiry.
Requirements checked on 11 October 2026; reconfirm the applicable rules for each shipment.
Grade, origin, packaging and order quantity are agreed per consignment. We do not publish stock or origin claims.

Dried whole red chilli can be investigated for wholesale and processing orders. The available lot, origin, moisture, grade and packaging are confirmed through quotation and supplier review.
Fresh red or green chilli enquiries are welcome. Supply depends on origin, season, grade, shipment route and destination eligibility; freshness and handling requirements must be specified.
Potential origins include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa and Ghana. Selection depends on current crop availability, qualified suppliers, buyer specification and export eligibility, not permanent stock in every country.
